Home Technology Brief:
“A snug, cosy home cinema room, perfect for kicking back after a long day or entertaining the children. A former ground floor reception room, lighting and acoustics need to be carefully considered”
A retrofit project, this single room solution required a high amount of design and consultation to overcome the acoustic barriers and provide the high quality cinema our designers are used to delivering.
We like a challenge here at Inspired Dwellings. This ground floor reception room was being neglected in its original setting. The marble fireplace and wooden floors proved tricky materials for the acoustics of a small cinema, as did the large bay windows overlooking the winding front drive way.
Plans were drawn up before any other building or decorative took place, ensuring all other parties knew where our in-wall speakers were going and that the bespoke joinery was prepared for the cabling. We also liaised closely with our clients to source the furniture, scheduling a large plush sofa and plenty of throws, rugs and scatter cushions to arrive at the end of our install. Combined with acoustically treated movie posters and heavy floor length curtains, the soft furnishings significantly reduce the sound reverberations which had risked the quality of the cinema itself. Our delivery team installed a drop-down screen and high-power projector which hang as a permanent features and provide quite a focal point for new guests!
The result is a cosy and intimate room, perfect for snuggling up on cold winter evenings, or for the children’s sleepovers.
